There is a common misconception that only God can judge me when, in fact, this is not based on scripture. It is precisely God's judgement of them that they should be fearful of, whether they realize it or not. It is God who has the power to send you to heaven or hell. For my part, I would prefer to have a man inform me of my sins than to stand before God and have him tell me to depart from him.
Often, I say this to people and they do not seem to understand that it is not wrong to call out sin that has already been judged. God has already judged it as sin. The only people who are offended are those who do not wish to give up their sinful lifestyle and hate correction. In fact you should be happy that someone cares enough to tell you about sin They don't want to see you end up in hell, they actually care about where your soul will spend eternity. You still have time to get it right. The minute you stand before God, it's done. You will no longer be able to claim ignorance.
You heard the word, but you chose not to abide by it. You wanted to do what you wanted to do, but in the end it wouldn't be worth it. Why die. when you can live? There is a tendency for people to throw scriptures around and to choose what they want to believe from them. It does not work that way. You must eat the entire roll. It is very common for them to use scriptures such as Matthew 7:1 about not judging, when in fact it is the saints of God who will judge.
then they stop there but let's continue
Jesus is asking, in what way can you judge or call out a sin that you have not been delivered from? Can you preach against fornication if you are still a fornicator? If you are an adulterer yourself, how can you preach against adultery? You are a hypocrite. In this context, he is not recommending that you refrain from judging at all, but rather to ensure that you are perfect in this regard.
Yes, I am aware that none of us are perfect. We all make mistakes, but we should strive for perfection. In some areas, we have achieved perfection. A person who was addicted to smoking but has been delivered by God and is no longer smoking has been perfected. A person who used to cuss but is no longer using foul language has been perfected. Being a witness means you have removed the beam from your own eye before informing someone else about the mote in their eye. How God delivered you from the circumstances in which you found yourself.
Therefore, the Saints of God are to judge in all matters. If we are to judge the world, how are we unworthy to judge other matters?
- We are to judge righteous judgment. (John 7:24).
- We are to judge all things (1 Corinthians 2:15-16).
- We are to judge sin in the church (1 Corinthians 5:3&12).
- We are to judge preaching (1Corinthians 14:29).
- We are to judge matters between the Brethren (1 Corinthians 6:5).
- We are to judge those who preach false gospels, false Christ, and false spirits. (2 Corinthians 11:1-4)
- We are to judge the works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11).
- We are to judge false prophets and false apostles (2 Peter 2:1, John 4:1, Revelation 2:2).
- We are to judge pretenders (1 John, 2:18-20)
When someone tells you that only God can judge them, inform them that this is a lie. This is not a part of Scripture. You are not responsible for their sins as long as you have done your job warning them about hell.
Only God can judge me. That should scare you. As always, remember God loves you and so do I with the love of Christ.
