Those of us on social media know that people feel as though they can say anything and everything to you. They don't have to know you personally, but they will insult you and attack you. That has happened to me over the years when I've stood up for what God has said.
The most common opinion was that God is not real or that I believe in fairy men. When I was lying in bed last night, I was thinking and talking to the Lord about the condition of the church. Really trying to figure out what the root of the problem is. At that point, God brought those words to my mind. Little did I know that to some extent, those people would be correct.
I would like to clarify by saying that God is very real. In spite of this, many of us were taught a fairy tale version. Over the past 40 years, the church has undergone significant changes. There were the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. It is now two years into the decade of the 2020s. Since I was born in the 1980s, I have only heard what my mother told me about the church at that time. As a young person in the 1990s, I remember attending church. There are certain things that I remember being taught. In the 2000s I am now entering my teenage years and I have a greater understanding. When it came to God, I was taught the basics. As an adult in the 2010s, I am still learning the basics, but I am also noticing the changes that have taken place.
You may be wondering what the basics are. The basics, such as the main events in the Bible. Adam and Eve, Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, the 10 Commandments, Samson and Delilah, and David and Goliath. I think you get the idea. As a teenager, I read the entire Bible. I will be honest with you. It was merely for the purpose of saying, "Oh yeah, I have read the entire Bible before." In other words, I was reading for the sake of reading and not for the sake of understanding what I was reading.
As a result, I was not taught the meat of God's word. It would be possible for me to tell you about the events surrounding sin, the need for the Holy Spirit, and being prepared for Jesus' arrival. I mentioned earlier that I noticed the changes in 2010. For me, it was 2015 to be precise. The things that they used to preach against had ceased to exist. It had become more of a show, a form of entertainment. Rather, it was about how much money can I extract from these people and what prophecies can I obtain from the Prophet? Simply put, it was no longer about God.
In spite of the fact that I was not saved. There was no doubt in my mind that the things I was seeing and hearing were incorrect. It is all about God's love and how he wishes to bless you. Everyone goes to heaven and no one goes to hell. Leaving people in the dark regarding their sins and leading them to believe that they can do whatever they wish and still be saved. My generation and younger have been taught this fairy tale version of who God really is. Please note that I am not claiming that this occurs everywhere. There are still many true believers in God. Those over the age of 50 that I know no longer believe the way they once did, which has trickled down and now anything is acceptable. It was not until I began studying that I realized this. It was only after I realized that I didn't know anything at all that I asked God for understanding.
Things I should have known, but was not taught. However, God began opening up the Scriptures to me so that I could understand them. The parables began to make sense. I was experiencing these light bulb moments. It is at this point that the light bulb is illuminated. It now makes sense. I am now able to see clearly. Now I have a better understanding. When it comes to what I did not know, it is actually embarrassing. Having a limited understanding of what took place and why it took place. I hated not knowing how to truly have a relationship with God because it was one of the main things I wished I knew.
They teach us about God's love and it stops there. It's all love, love, love and nothing about sin. If you go back and start from the beginning, it was about God's love before sin entered the picture. It is because he has loved us so much that he has always provided us with a means to return to him. In spite of the fact that God loves us, he hates our sins. The love he has for us is so great, that he has provided us with a means of escape.
There are more in-depth topics that I would like to discuss, but I do not wish to make this blog post too lengthy. God is not only a God of love, but also a God of judgment. It is evident throughout the Bible. Prophets were permitted to warn them, but if they refused to turn from their sinful nature, judgment was pronounced.
God said that we do not eat of him the way that we used to, meaning his word is our meat. We do not read, study or obey his word as we should. The Bible is our most powerful weapon. It is only through reading his word, learning about him, obeying him, and becoming closer to him that we can find hope for the future. The word of God will not change for any of us. We cannot expect God to come down to our level. It is necessary for us to rise to his level.
The scripture tells us that my people will perish for lack of knowledge.
There has never been a more important time to begin reading God's word for yourself, asking God to give you knowledge, wisdom, and understanding of it.
We cannot claim ignorance on the day of judgment simply because we should have had a personal relationship with him. We should not look to our pastors for everything as if they were God himself. It is God's desire to speak to you as well, and to hear from you. On the day of judgment, your pastor will not stand in your place.
According to the Bible, we are members of The Body. With many members, each of us plays an important role. God is more than this fairy tale version. Get to know who he truly is for yourself.
Remember that God loves you, and so do I with the love of Christ.
